Helsinki University of Technology (HUT), founded in 1849, is the oldest and largest university of technology in Finland. The Internal Combustion Engine Laboratory (ICEL) of the Dept. of Mech. Engineering has engaged in advanced diesel engine research in several fields, for example modelling of gas exchange, fuel injection and combustion, experimental study of diesel sprays, new fuel injection technologies, advanced design of engine components, in-cylinder diagnostics, engine tribology and engine noise control.
