As the oldest technical university in Germany, founded in 1825, the profile of Universität Karlsruhe is determined primarily by the technical and natural sciences as well by engineering. The Institute of Reciprocating Engines, being a part of the faculty of mechanical engineering, is dedicated to research and development in the area internal combustion engines. The institute has a long experience in experimental and numerical methods to analyse engine processes.
