Task 1.2: Thermodynamics of engines with extreme design parameters
The goal of this task is to develop diesel engines with significantly higher power density than today's standard engines and at the same time take the environmental impact of engine operation into consideration. The thermodynamics of the extreme parameter engines will be investigated by means of advanced CFD, 3D FEM and zero dimensional models. Prototype service tests on experimental four and two stroke engines, capable of operating under extreme conditions, will be performed. Prototype components for these engines such as new bearings, piston rings, fuel valve nozzles and exhaust valves will be designed, manufactured and tested.
